Quick answer · 2nd Gen Tacoma (2005–2015)

On a stock 2nd gen Tacoma (2005–2015) with factory suspension and factory offset, the biggest tire that fits with zero modifications is 265/75R16 or 265/70R17 (both 31.6″). A “skinny 33” like 255/85R16 fits with mud flap delete. True 33s (285/75R16 or 285/70R17) need trimming and often a 2″–3″ lift.

Toyota Highlander Complaints by Year: 2008–2023

NHTSA holds 4,142 owner complaints on the Toyota Highlander for model years 2008 to 2023. The most complaints are on 2021 (531), 2019 (498) and 2008 (404). The fewest are on 2016 (111), 2009 (134) and 2014 (136). Power train is the most-named component overall (864 mentions), then service brakes (505), electrical system (504) and engine (437). Across all years complaints report 287 crashes, 41 fires, 266 injuries and 4 deaths. Complaint counts are voluntary, unverified and not adjusted for sales, so they point at where to look rather than which year is worst.

Land Cruiser 100 and 200 Series Buyer's Guide: What to Check and What They Cost in 2026

100 Series (1998–2007): the median auction sale over the past year is about $19,000, with 200,000-mile trucks selling for $8,000–16,000 and sub-100,000-mile examples for $30,000–85,000. Mileage, rust and the timing belt record set the price. The forum favorites are 2003–2005 (5-speed automatic, no VVT-i) and 1998–1999 (factory rear locker). 200 Series (2008–2021): the median auction sale is about $83,500; 2008–2011 trucks bring $16,000–24,000, 2016–2019 trucks $60,000–90,000, and 2021s $67,500–154,000 with a median of $107,000. The 2016 refresh (8-speed, Toyota Safety Sense) is where prices step up. Book values run far below what enthusiasts pay. 4th Gen Tacoma Lift Kits and Tire Sizes: What Fits at Stock, Leveled and on 35s (2024+)

At stock height, a 285/70R17 (32.7″) fits a 2024+ Tacoma on the factory wheels, and owners are running 285/75R17 (33.8″) on stock TRD Off-Road wheels with no rub or a sliver of plastic trimmed. The TRD Pro and Trailhunter's wider 18x8.5 +20 wheels take 285/70R18 with everything in place and 295/70R18 with the crash bar and mud flaps off. 35s fit with a 2.5″ preload-collar or spacer lift on +20 to +25 wheels after removing the front crash brackets and mud flaps; nobody has needed a cab mount chop on this truck yet. Lift kits run from $400 (ReadyLift spacers) to $5,300+ (King with UCAs); the SR's leaf rear and the hybrids' extra 400–470 lb change what fits. Any lift over about 2″ needs the TSS cameras and radar recalibrated, which is the cost owners forget. Compiled from manufacturer pages and documented owner builds, labeled below.

Every 5,000 miles or 6 months: rotate the tires, check fluids, brakes and wipers. Every 10,000 or 12 months: oil and filter (0W-20, 5.9 qt). Every 15,000: re-torque the propeller shaft bolts and run the under-truck inspection. Every 30,000: engine air filter and cabin air filter, plus a transmission fluid and transfer case inspection. Every 40,000: spark plugs. The 2.4L turbo's plug interval is 40,000 miles, not the 60,000 or 120,000 of the old V6. 100,000: first engine and intercooler coolant change, then every 50,000. Toyota Grand Highlander Maintenance Schedule by Mileage

Toyota's schedule for the Grand Highlander is a service visit every 5,000 miles or 6 months, with the engine oil and filter changed every 10,000 miles or 12 months. Cabin and engine air filters are replaced at 30,000 miles, spark plugs at 40,000 miles on the 2.4L turbo (then 80,000 and 120,000), and engine coolant first at 100,000 miles or 120 months, then every 50,000 miles or 60 months. All-wheel-drive gas trucks also replace the rear differential and transfer case oil every 30,000 miles. Hybrids add an HV battery cooling intake filter check at each visit and a cleaning every 20,000 miles. Dirt and dust shorten the oil interval to 5,000 miles or 6 months.

2026 Toyota RAV4 TSB Tracker: Bulletins and Known Issues

Toyota has filed seven bulletins for 2026 RAV4 problems with NHTSA so far, and one fixes most of the infotainment complaints: T-SB-0050-26 (August 19, 2026) is a head unit software update, version 8612G42397, for the 2026 RAV4 Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid. It addresses reboots, black screens, an inoperative "Add a device" button, wireless Android Auto failing after remote start, and more, and it is covered by the 36-month/36,000-mile Basic Warranty. The other six are tech tips on CarPlay and audio dropouts (T-TT-0803-26), distance to empty (T-TT-0800-26), a Prime that won't charge (T-TT-0801-26), remote start (T-TT-0798-26), battery state of health (T-TT-0806-26) and a check engine code under investigation (T-TT-0810-26). The 2019 and 2020 RAV4 have the most documented problems: NHTSA lists recalls for engine casting porosity, front lower control arms, power steering assist loss and fuel pumps on those years. 2019 and newer gas RAV4s are named in a December 2025 lawsuit over the 8-speed automatic transmission; the claims are unproven and Toyota has not recalled it. Hybrids and Primes have a repeated 12V battery drain complaint (Toyota issued a service bulletin for the 2021 Prime), and 2019–2022 hybrids have the rear power cable corrosion that Toyota Canada covered with an extended warranty. 2013–2018 gas RAV4s have a short recall list, mostly labels.

The RAV4 Prime uses 36.0 kWh per 100 miles on electric and gets 38 mpg on gas (EPA). That makes electric driving cheaper whenever your electricity price per kWh is below your gas price divided by 13.7. At $3.50 gas that break-even is about $0.256 per kWh; at $4.00 gas it is about $0.292. Most home electricity rates fall under that, but high-rate regions and public fast charging can fall above it. The Toyota Truck Home Garage Tool List: What You Need for Every Job

To do your own oil, tire, brake and fluid work on a Toyota truck you need six things: a 3-ton floor jack, a pair of jack stands, a 1/2-inch click torque wrench that reaches at least 100 ft-lb (154 ft-lb for steel wheels on a 2024+ Tacoma or 2022+ Tundra), a metric socket set, an OBD2 scanner, and a drain pan. That kit costs roughly $300–400. Add a fluid pump for differential and transmission fills, a vacuum coolant filler, and a smoke machine for EVAP codes and you can handle almost every job on our maintenance schedules. Toyota's lug nut torque is 83 ft-lb on 2nd and 3rd gen Tacomas and 97 ft-lb on aluminum wheels for the 4th gen Tacoma, Tundra, Sequoia and Land Cruiser 250, per the owner's manuals.

Toyota Tacoma Tuning Guide: OTT, VF Tuner, Cobb and Pedal Commander Compared

3rd gen (2016–2023 3.5L V6): the popular choice is an OTT (Overland Tailor Tuning) flash (about $450–500), which mainly reworks shift points and throttle response to cut gear hunting; OTT's calibration carries CARB Executive Order D-883, so it is emissions-legal in all 50 states. VF Tuner is the do-it-yourself alternative, with no CARB order found. 4th gen (2024+ 2.4T): the Cobb Accessport ($693–770) adds real power, has CARB EOs for its tested maps, and can flash back to stock; OTT launched a 4th gen Stage 1 in August 2025. Throttle controllers (Pedal Commander, aFe Sprint Booster, Banks PedalMonster, about $250–300) only change pedal mapping and add no power. A tune does not automatically void your warranty, but a dealer can deny a powertrain claim it can tie to the tune.

Toyota Tundra V35A Engine Recall Explained (2022–2024 Tundra, LX, GX)

Toyota has recalled about 272,000 gas-engine trucks across three NHTSA campaigns for the same problem: machining debris left in the 3.4L twin-turbo V35A engine can damage the main bearings, which can lead to engine knock, a stall and loss of power. 24V381 (2022–2023 Tundra and LX600, 102,092 vehicles) replaces the engine. 25V767 (2022–2024 Tundra, LX, and the 2024 GX550, 126,691 vehicles) and 26V320 (2024 Tundra, 43,566 vehicles) inspect the #1 main bearing with software and drive data, and replace the engine if needed. Toyota's codes: 24TA07/24TB07 and 25TA14/25TB14 (Toyota), 24LA04/24LB04 and 25LA07/25LB07 (Lexus). Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. All figures from NHTSA recall reports.

Cost of 33 vs 35 Inch Tires on a Tacoma or 4Runner: The Full Build (2026)

33s (285/70R17) on a 3rd gen Tacoma or 5th gen 4Runner: about $2,600–$3,300 for tires, wheels and mounting, or roughly $3,000–$6,700 with a level or lift, alignment and the extras. 35s (315/70R17): about $2,900–$3,500 for tires, wheels and mounting, but about $8,000–$14,500 as a complete build once you add a 3″ lift with upper control arms, a cab mount chop, a regear and a speedometer calibrator. Toyota Regear Chart: Tire Size vs Gear Ratio vs RPM

To get back the factory feel after bigger tires, multiply your stock axle ratio by (new tire height ÷ stock tire height). On a 5th gen 4Runner, FJ Cruiser or 2nd gen Tacoma (3.73 stock, 31.6″ tires) that math says about 4.0 for 33s and 4.1 for 35s. Most owners overshoot on purpose because armor, racks and water add weight: 4.56 is the common pick for 33s to 35s, 4.88 for heavy 35″ builds and 5.29 for 37s. 3rd gen Tacomas and GX460s start at 3.91 on shorter tires, so they land about one step higher: 4.56 for 35s, 4.88 for heavy 35s or 37s.

On a stock FZJ80 Land Cruiser (1991–1997) with factory suspension and factory 16x8 wheels, the biggest tire that fits with zero rubbing is 285/75R16 (32.8″). A 33″ skinny like 255/85R16 fits with minor trimming. 35s (315/75R16) require a 2.5″–3″ lift, 4.88 regear, and trimming. 37s need body work and custom control arms.

285/75R17 vs 33x12.50R17: Head-to-Head Tire Comparison

285/75R17 is taller and narrower (33.8″ x 11.2″, closer to a true 34″ tire). 33x12.50R17 is shorter and wider (33.0″ x 12.5″, a true 33″ tire). Pick 285/75R17 for more ground clearance, better tracking, and more aggressive look on a taller truck. Pick 33x12.50R17 for more width, wider footprint, and typically softer ride due to Load Range C or D options.

Expect 4.88 regear for drivability. Total build cost: $8,000–$15,000+ depending on parts and labor. This is not a bolt-on mod.
